UPCOMING EVENTS

HOMECOMING

Homecoming is scheduled for September 7th.  On this special Sunday, we will have only one service outside, under a tent, at 10:00am.  We need singers to help create a LARGE choir for Homecoming!  You don't have to be a choir member or even a part-time member.  We need as many people as possible to help on just this Sunday.  We will have very few rehearsals and it will be a blessing to have such a good group to help us celebrate our wonderful church.  Please, prayerfully consider being a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!  I will have a sign up sheet on the choir room door and I will be in touch with you about the details of this event.  May God Bless you for your consideration to help!

CIRCLE of JOY

Join us for Movie Night!  We will meet Monday, August 11 at 6:30pm at Sandra Simpkins house for fun and fellowship.  Please bring a snack to share so we can munch as we watch our movie.  Our collection item for Leslie's House, a homeless shelter for women, is ladies underwear.  All sizes are needed.  Call Sandra at 644-1202 if you have any questions.  Looking ahead to September, mark you calendar for Monday, September 8 at 7:00pm to hear Karen Neill from the Guilford County Cooperative Extension talk about environmentally friendly landscaping!

NEW MEMBERS CLASS

This class will be held beginning August 24th, during the 9:45am hour in the Conference Room for 6 Sundays.  The class will cover:  What it means to be a Christian; what it means to be a United Methodist Christian; and, what it means to be a United Methodist Christian at ORUMC.  Our New Members class is designed for prospective new members and also could well be used as a “review” for established members.  Our pastors, Rev. Michael and Rev. Karen Kurtz, will be teaching the class.  The 5th and 6th Sessions will be led by laity on the topic of “Discovering, Developing and Deploying Your Spiritual Gifts”.  Please call the church office at 643-4690 if you wish to enroll in this class so we might reserve a class manual for you.

  BLOOD DRIVE

The next drive is on August 11, from 2:30 until 7:00pm.  Blood is urgently needed at this time.  If you are one of the people who’s ineligible to donate for one reason or another, consider working in the canteen or donating baked goods to be shared with donors and workers.

CHILDREN OF THE WORLD

Children of the World International Children’s Choir will bring the mission field right into our church!  Forty-seven disadvantaged children will come to be part of one of our three teams.  They are sponsored by World Help which believes that children are one of the forgotten “unreached” groups of people.  This children’s choir will be at our church August 31st for all 3 services and will eat lunch with us right after the 11:00am service.  We hope you will make plans to be here that Sunday.  We are looking for several host families for these children to stay with that weekend.  Please, prayerfully consider this opportunity to be a part of World Missions without leaving your home!  More details to come.  If you have any questions or if you would like to help, please contact Susan Kunar at 298-4070.
