VBS WRAP-UP FROM THE DIRECTOR FOR
CHRISTIAN ED.
Wow,
and Woe!!! Power Lab 2008, VBS was an awesome adventure!
In the last issue, Christina Scott thanked several folks and
groups who helped to make VBS great and easier for the many
volunteers. I want to
give you final numbers and a few Thank You’s myself.
First,
we had 410 Total enrolled, this was 120 weekday school children, 215
evening participants, including the children, youth and New Members
class, and an additional 75 volunteers.
Another banner year! We
had as many kids as last year and about 11 fewer volunteers.
We managed, but we need more volunteers to make it run
smoothly!!!
Ben
Williams needs a pat on the back for a great back drop set!
Our LAB wasn’t complete until he showed up to design and
build it!!
Susan
Kunar is the first Music Director to assist me in the morning and
afternoon program! She
had awesome energy and really took the programs to the next level
with her musical leadership! She
is gifted with our children and gets more out of them!
I enjoyed the lunches with her the most, too!
Adria
Brewer and Kim Jordan were lifesavers.
They not only led the morning program, Kim also was in charge
of the morning and evening pre-school games.
Adria is my summer intern (not compensated other then to be
with me!), and is still organizing the aftermath of VBS chaos!
To
the volunteers in the office area who not only sent out mailings for
me, they also did a myriad of paperwork. A special thanks to Phyllis
Rowe and Pam Jordan for keeping me going with laughter, food and
McD’s Ice Tea through the long days!
We
had a fantastic group of youth who helped either in day and/or the
evening program to hold together and be in charge of activities:
Abby Gardner (assisted Susan Kunar), Brandon Sumner, Taylor
Sumner, Kristin Spence, Kelsie Stanley, Chloe Kunar, Trevor Ford,
Sam McGee, Kara Powers, Dana Adami, Sam Hanlon, and the Youth VBS
morning Director, Danny Hanlon.
These youth had a total of over 245 volunteer hours alone!!!
We
had an awesome youth program this year, led by Justin Brewer for
Bible time, Ted Shelton, Bobby Corum and Bill Scott for games and
snacks. They had an
average of twenty kids each night!!
This was great considering the Youth Guatemala trip took
place at the same time as VBS.
Now
for my personal thanks: Cristina
Voorheis, Pre-school Director, managed to keep smiling even after
several potty “accidents”. She
organized and kept the pre-schoolers on time and happy with her
volunteers changing almost nightly due to illness or family calendar
changes!
Julie
Phillips, VBS Co-Director, worked each weekend in June to get the
beautiful set ready and helped to manage the snacks and adults in
flux each night! Julie takes over for VBS 2009, Crocodile Dock
VBS! In fact, at our traditional lunch out after Sunday
service, Julie started to talk about decorations for next year
already!!!
And a
HUGE thank You to Christina Scott, outgoing, retiring VBS Director
for the last three years! She not only knows how to “do a
spreadsheet”, she set up the groups this year as I was in the
middle of surgery with Bobby, and she organized all the volunteers!
She, too, has volunteered to stay on to manage the spreadsheet for
next year! |
